Juvéderm Ultra XC vs. Ultra Plus XC

What I Tell My Patients

One of the most common questions I get as a cosmetic nurse injector is: “What’s the difference between Juvéderm Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC?”

The truth is, they’re both excellent fillers, but they’re designed to do very different things.

It Comes Down to Soft vs. Structured

Juvéderm Ultra XC is softer and more flexible. I typically use it when I want a natural, subtle enhancement, especially in the lips or for fine lines around the mouth. It blends beautifully and is perfect if you want that “refreshed, not obvious” look.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, on the other hand, is thicker and gives more support. I reach for this when treating deeper lines like smile lines or when someone needs more noticeable volume and lift.

How I Choose for You

It’s never one-size-fits-all.

If you’re looking for:

  • Soft, natural lips or early signs of aging → Ultra XC
  • Deeper folds or more defined volume → Ultra Plus XC

My Approach

My goal is always the same: enhance your features without making it obvious you’ve had anything done (unless of course you want people to know you’ve had something done). Choosing the right filler is a big part of that, and it’s why an experienced injector matters.
